For families and singletons alike, Labor Day weekend marks the end of summer as the last three-day weekend before the kids head back to school and we all get back to real life. Where do Americans plan to spend their last vacation until Thanksgiving? To find the top 10 national Labor Day destinations, TurnKey Vacation Rentals compared how each destination performed on Google Trends from July 29 to Aug. 9 in the United States and then broke down the data further to find out the top destinations state-by-state.

Last year, Americans headed for the hills Labor Day weekend, with the Rocky Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley among the top destinations. This year, America’s “Second-City” is first, coming in as the top Labor Day destination. Holiday travelers on both coasts plan to hit their favorite sandy beaches, San Diego and Myrtle Beach. Also well represented on the top ten list, several coastal cities are the on the itinerary for many vacationers looking to get the best of both worlds.

While national statistics show people traveling to far-away locations, such as Hawaii and Yosemite, individual state data suggests that many plan to make shorter treks for the long weekend.

 

Tennesseans, South Dakotans and Hawaiians are planning to keep their travel time short by visiting home state hot spots. On the other hand, it looks like Idahoans are ready for one last dose of tropical island paradise before winter sets in with Hawaii as their top search.
