Located in eastern Tennessee, Pigeon Forge is conveniently within a day’s drive for two-thirds of the nation’s population east of the Mississippi River. Despite its small population of 6,000, the city welcomes more than ten million visitors yearly.

I visited Pigeon Forge in May 2023 with my husband and again in November 2024 with a group of writers. Both visits were full of fun, and now I’m planning a girls’ trip for later in 2025. There is just so much to see and do. Here are some activities that I believe would make a perfect extended weekend getaway in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The Island

The giant Ferris Wheel at the Island in Pigeon Forge

Embark on your Pigeon Forge adventure at The Island, a vibrant hub packed with a diverse range of shops, delicious eateries, and the iconic Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. The Wheel is a must-ride, offering breathtaking views of the city and its surroundings.

Swing by the Island in the evening to catch the spectacular fountain light show—it’s pure magic! Even during the day, the fountains are synced to music, and you can relax in the nearby rocking chairs and take it all in.

If you want to sample moonshine, the Ole Smoky Barn is near the fountains. Enjoy live country music and sip a variety of moonshine flavors. My favorites were the Pink Lemonade Moonshine and the Moonshine Cherries.

TITANIC Museum

Step into history at the TITANIC Museum. Upon arrival, you’re given the story of an actual Titanic passenger, and as you explore, you’ll uncover their fate. Along the way, discover incredible artifacts and check out the new Jack & Rose tribute panel. I visited the museum both times I was in Pigeon Forge. I had different passengers each time, and both of them survived. Don’t forget about those picture-perfect spots outside the museum and inside on the grand staircase.

Dollywood

No visit to Pigeon Forge is complete without a stop at Dollywood. Equal parts amusement park and cultural showcase, Dollywood is known for its exciting rides, captivating live music, and seasonal events that delight all ages.

The Grist Mill Sign in Dollywood

For a special treat, follow the delicious scent to The Grist Mill for some mouthwatering cinnamon bread. It tastes even better than it smells!

If you visit over the holidays, check out the Smoky Mountain Christmas with more than six million lights. I was mesmerized when I visited in November.

Grab a map and review the show times as you enter the park. Pick one or two shows you want to see, and then build your time for exploring, riding, and eating around them.

Array Musical Variety Show

Check out the Array Musical Variety Show for a fun show entertaining people of all ages. This show truly lives up to its name, offering everything from country classics and pop hits to jaw-dropping acrobatic performances and laugh-out-loud comedy. The talented performers bring great energy to the stage, but the acrobats? They are absolutely mesmerizing!

Dolly Parton’s Stampede

Dolly Parton’s Stampede is your spot if you’re craving a mix of entertainment and Southern-style dining. Dig into a hearty multi-course meal while watching impressive performances embody Tennessee’s spirit. Be sure to arrive about a half hour early for the lively pre-show tunes in the waiting area. While I enjoyed the show and the meal, I was most impressed with the scenery used as the arena’s backdrop.

The Old Mill

Outdoor Gravity Park

For a unique and thrilling family activity, head to Outdoor Gravity Park and experience the fun of Zorbing. This involves rolling down a 1,000-foot hill in a giant 11-foot inflatable ball filled with water, providing a unique adventure you will never forget. My husband and I still chuckle about this experience.

Alpine Coasters

Pigeon Forge has several Alpine Coasters. I have had the good fortune of riding two of them.

Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster is the longest alpine coaster in the United States, with a more than a mile-long track. My husband and I rode this several times.

Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is an alpine coaster that speeds up to 30 mph—another fun ride.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Nature lovers, this one’s for you! The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is Pigeon Forge’s neighbor. It is the most visited national park in the U.S. and is a slice of heaven with its countless hiking trails, scenic viewpoints, and vibrant wildflowers in spring.

If you prefer a guided experience, book a tour with Smoky Mountain Guides—they’ll take you to hidden gems you’d probably miss on your own.

Tanger Outlets

Shopping, anyone? Tanger Outlets Sevierville is the place to snag great deals on your favorite brands. The outlets are just a few minutes from Pigeon Forge.

While there, don’t miss XPERIA Ocean Journey, the newest attraction at the Outlets. It’s like walking into an aquarium with a twist—interactive exhibits and advanced tech bring the underwater world to life.

And if you’ve explored Pigeon Forge before, remember there are always new attractions every year to discover when the Smoky Mountains call you back.

Where to Stay

Finally, make sure you’ve got a cozy place to recharge after all the fun. Here are a few favorites:
•Eagles Ridge Resort: Ideal for families, these luxury cabins feature incredible views and homey amenities. I stayed there in November, and our cabin had both an indoor and outdoor fireplace, an indoor pool, a hot tub outdoors, and a soaking tub in the master bath.

•Camp Margaritaville: A laid-back, family-friendly hotel with pools, a lazy river, and even a bowling alley. My husband and I stayed here, and the rooms were large, and there was a lot to keep people entertained without leaving the premises.

Wayback Hotel: This boutique gem combines retro vibes with modern comforts—perfect for a touch of nostalgia. This newly refurbished hotel is a Tribute Portfolio Hotel with Marriott. I toured it in November and hope to stay here on my next visit.

Whether you’re here for the thrills, history, or spectacular views, Pigeon Forge is the perfect extended weekend getaway location. Pack your adventurous spirit and hit the road; your Pigeon Forge adventure awaits!
