As America continues its journey beyond the 250th anniversary celebration, Extended Weekend Getaways is launching an ongoing editorial initiative dedicated to exploring the places, people, traditions, and experiences that define our nation.
America: Then, Now & Next will showcase destinations, historical landmarks, cultural attractions, scenic road trips, and authentic local experiences across all 50 states, celebrating America’s rich heritage while inspiring readers to continue discovering the stories shaping our nation’s future.
We are currently accepting features from destinations, tourism organizations, attractions, historians, travel writers, and industry professionals who wish to contribute compelling, well-researched, and engaging content for this continuing series, including:
• Destination features highlighting America’s historical significance and modern-day appeal
• Spotlight articles on historic districts, Main Streets, scenic byways, museums, cultural attractions, and heritage sites
• Personal narratives, local legends, and authentic travel experiences that bring destinations to life
• Stories showcasing the evolution of communities, traditions, and regional cultures
• Articles exploring America’s natural landscapes, outdoor recreation, and conservation efforts
• Family-friendly, educational, and experiential travel ideas that encourage readers to Keep Traveling America
• Features on emerging destinations, revitalized communities, and the future of American travel
Submission Guidelines
- Articles should range from 700 to 1,000 words
- Original, unpublished content only
- Include 3–5 high-resolution photos or image sources whenever possible
- Clearly outline the story angle, destination, and relevance to the theme of America: Then, Now & Next
- Pitches are accepted on a rolling basis; however, early submissions are encouraged to secure preferred publication dates and destination coverage opportunities
