June 5/MADISON -NASCAR returns to Illinois with the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at the World Wide Tehnology Raceway (WWTR). This race establishes the raceway as the country’s standout track for stock car, open-wheel, and drag racing alike, according to Governor JB Pritzker. The week will feature several other events, such as: the World of Outlaws Late Model Series at nearby Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach. May 22/CHICAGO – in collaboration with Free Fyre’s Rebirth Tour at 6 p.m. in the 21c Museum Hotel. Live music and poetry will retell the story of Harlem Renaissance artists, conveying the impact and influence of these artistic mediums on Black culture.The evening will include performances by Free Fyre co-founders Cameron L. Mitchell and Jazzmin Mitchell. Admission is free and open to the public, but should register at Eventbrite.
Fort de Chartres Rendezvous
June 4-5/PRAIRIE DU ROCHER – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fort Kaskaskia State Park. The boom of cannons, the smell of campfires and a parade of colorful uniforms will transport visitors back to the 1700s on Saturday & Sunday at Fort de Chartres State Historic Site’s annual Rendezvous, the largest gathering of its kind anywhere in the Midwest, attracting many thousands to the site during this 2 day special event. Visitors can try their hand at throwing a tomahawk, buy hand-made crafts, learn about French kitchen gardens, and watch swordsmen duel, taste delicious food and much more.
