Outdoor Adventures for Family
Springtime in Beavers Bend State Park is nothing short of magical. As the trees begin to bloom and wildlife emerges from winter’s slumber, families can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities:
•Hiking & Exploring – The park offers numerous scenic trails, from the easy Friends Trail Loop (perfect for younger kids) to the more challenging Skyline Trail, which rewards hikers with breathtaking mountain views. The crisp spring air makes trekking through the pine forests and rocky landscapes an enjoyable experience.
•Boating & Kayaking – Rent a kayak, canoe, or pontoon and explore the crystal-clear waters of Broken Bow Lake. The lake’s calm coves make it ideal for beginner paddlers and families looking for a relaxing day on the water.
•Fishing & Wildlife Viewing – Cast a line in the Mountain Fork River, home to rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. For those who prefer to watch wildlife rather than catch it, guided tours provide opportunities to spot deer, bald eagles, and other native creatures.
•Zip-lining & Horseback Riding – For thrill-seekers, zip-lining over the treetops at Rugaru Adventures or horseback riding through the rugged terrain with Riverman Trail Rides is an unforgettable experience. These activities offer breathtaking views of the forested landscape and a chance to see the region from a unique perspective.
Hochatown:
The Fun Hub of Broken Bow
Just outside the park, Hochatown is packed with entertainment for all ages. Families can enjoy:
•Maze – Step into 29,000 sq ft of twisting pathways made from a mile of wooden fencing. Completion depends on collecting stamps found across the labyrinth. To keep things even more interesting, the layout is changed several times through the year.
- Mini-golf & Go-Karts– Hochatown Amusements offers mini-golf, go-karts, and fun arcade games. It’s a great way for kids to burn off energy after a day of exploring the outdoors.
- Petting Zoos & Animal Encounters– Visit Hochatown Rescue Center & Petting Zoo to meet exotic and farm animals. Kids can get up close with goats, llamas, and even kangaroos.
- Wineries & Breweries– While kids enjoy ice cream at Hochatown Creamery, parents can unwind with a glass of local wine at Girls Gone Wine or sample craft beer at Mountain Fork Brewery.
Live Music & Entertainment– Many local restaurants and venues host live music on the weekends, making for a lively evening scene the whole family can enjoy.
- Beavers Bend Depot & Trail Rides– Train and trail rides through beautiful Beavers Bend State Park game reserve.
